Gateway Cities CDC will
revitalize the region by developing workforce
housing, providing homebuyer assistance, enhancing
retail opportunities for residents and creating
opportunities for industrial development in its
communities.
The Gateway Cities Community
Development Corporation was founded in 2005 and has
been active in community development projects since
then. During 2005 and 2006 GCCDC acquired and
renovated a number of sub standard homes and made
them available for purchase to first time
homebuyers. In tandem with this activity GCCDC and
its partners also conducted community clean sweep
activities providing volunteers as well as plant and
other materials to clean up streets in the city of
Compton.
Since 2006 GCCDC has been actively seeking workforce
housing opportunities and community revitalization
projects in the Gateway Cities Region
GCCDC will market the rehabilitated properties to
the average workforce resident . These
are the residents who are most likely to stimulate
the revitalization of the neighborhood. GCCDC
believes that it is important to maintain an element
of control in the sale of the rehabilitated homes in
order to increase the likelihood that homes will be
owned by families most interested in the continuing
revitalization of the neighborhood. GCCDC reinvests
its proceeds to eventually sustain its
rehabilitation and economic development efforts in
the Gateway Cities region.
GCCDC seeks to coordinate with local residents, the
Gateway Cities Council of Governments and other
public and private businesses and organizations to
fund or undertake community improvement activities
such as local cleanup efforts, removal of graffiti,
water-conservation landscaping, and other activities
that will improve the quality of life for
neighborhood residents.
Perhaps most importantly, the persons living and
working in the Gateway Cities region will not be
required to pay for any of the rehabilitation of the
neighborhood or other community efforts that will
serve to change each rehabilitated house’s
surrounding neighborhood.
